Ladybug, Ladybug

For the past few days on sunny afternoons, hundreds of ladybugs have been searching our cottage for any crack or crevice into their winter home. Perhaps behind a shingle, or a bit of molding trim, or clapboard, many will huddle together somewhat protected against the worst of the coming cold and dryness. Not all will survive, but with a bit of covering shelter many will, next spring to emerge to prey upon aphids and other small flower and vegetable garden pests. We welcome them to our home, just as long as they stay outside of our living space.
