A mostly sunny day drew us out for a drive up-mountain, to see the progression of color from the valley to high meadows and swamps. We see most of the reds in the valley, where peak color has passed in some wet areas such as around Mill Pond, and an assortment of ash purples and maple and birch oranges and yellows up higher, where the color advances uphill.
Driving up Mt. Everett, the highest peak in South County at 2,624 ft., we passed this high meadow (click to enlarge) where we stopped to compose a two-shot panorama just to fit it in a photo. Without a doubt, this Columbus Day weekend will offer good color, with peak viewing just north of us in Vermont and New York, and new color among still-green leaves in Connecticut.
