October's End

The past two nights have produced hard freezes sufficient to skim still ponds with ice and freeze bird baths solid. The warmth of radiators welcomes us as we roll out of bed to prepare for our day.
A look on the Internet shows skiers already at play in southern Austrian alps, snow below Montreal, and -22F just north of Hudson Bay, which has begun its annual freeze.
We have given the lawn its last mowing, which also mulched fallen leaves into bits blown away by north winds. We are ready for the flurries of gray November.
