For decades we and friends have been squeezing a variety of apples in old-fashioned hand presses. This year's apple crop in our area has been phenomenal, with even ancient apple trees long lost under new forests bearing abundantly.Long ago we constructed this press from white oak chain-sawed from a lightning-struck tree and a purchased kit of the metal parts. Absolutely nothing beats a cup of the first squeeze, the sweet, brown liquor a tasty blend of two or more kinds of apples from backyard trees.
