Berkshire Snow Squall

The Berkshires are famous for changeable weather, which in winter provides bursts of snow as a brief wet spell reverts to cold northwest winds and snow squalls that dump a few inches in an hour or so. The wind plasters trees and buildings with the snow, highlighting shapes and shadows.
The above nearby red oak is in the U.S. register of specimen oaks. Constructed just before the Great Depression, the stone house below is one of the many former "Berkshire Cottages" tucked away in these hills. Both photos (click to enlarge) represent present Berkshire weather and remnants of old estates.
