The Egremont Inn, first a tavern in 1780 and later a restaurant and inn for tourists and locals, was destroyed in an early morning fire two days ago. Reputed to have been a watering hole for Shay's Rebellion folk who fought their famous skirmish nearby, it was a favorite for local musicians and area regulars.According to the owners, the historical landmark with its singular porch will be rebuilt. The sooner the better for the town of Egremont and the seasonal tourism and good will the inn fostered.
