At the Feeder

November was colder than average here, with several mornings below 10F, and a perhaps an inch of snow on the ground, which freezes deeper every night. Most ponds are frozen over, and our feeder and heated water dish bring many hungry birds, such as this female pine siskin. The male is similar, but with a yellow wing patch.
As posted earlier, downy woodpeckers also love sunflower hearts, as well as suet, which MLH just put up and will be more important later in the season. This morning a male downy came for a breakfast of seeds, perturbed only by a fleeting visit from the Cardinal.
