Second Batch - Second Week

Almost seven days to the hour after their last blowfly larvae inspection (see Second Batch below), these four baby bluebirds are well on their way to fledging by next Sunday. Compare this photo with the one in Second Batch to see their determinedly rapid development, fueled by their high-protein diet of all sorts of bugs ferried into wide mouths by diligent parents.
Once they fly the nest, it will be cleaned and presented to the parents for a third effort to raise another three or four.
Early monitor reports for our area suggest a bumper year for baby blues, and not a blowfly on them.
