Chicory Galore II

As noted earlier, seasonally abundant chicory borders our area byways, attracting busy bees of every sort, including this large bee. Recent media reports have noted declines in the common European honeybee, and suggested that their absence would decrease the yields of fruits and flowers requiring bee pollination.
We think we see fewer of the common honeybees, but we find an amazing diversity of bees in their stead, ranging from this fuzzy bee to bees little bigger than an ant. Pollination by bees of diverse sort would seem to make up for those reputedly lazy honeybees.
Moreover, between weekly lawn mowings white clover flowers soon dot our yard. Anyone pausing long enough to note their visitors finds abundant European honeybees.
