Independence Day Picnic

The month-long rains finally ended in time for July 4th celebrations. Clear and cool, the day began with families setting up for long-planned picnics and games and guests in their back yards. One family in Gt. Barrington, however, received a large, uninvited guest, who boorishly sat right on the picnic table in anticipation of lunch.
Bruce and Liz have grown accustomed to spring bears savaging their bird feeder. However, this particular bear was somewhat bigger than the usual visitor, and seemed to have a singular presumption about joining their holiday feast. Bruce decided to give the bear the boot, by throwing boots at it, with little effect. After a bit, the bear took the hint, or perhaps smelled the neighbor's grill, and ambled off.
