Dragonfly - Mosquito Bane

Spring nears its end, as we note but one week remains before the official beginning of summer. Ponds warm, yielding up dragonflies of a half dozen sizes and colors, all of whom eat an enormous number of mosquitoes and other bloodthirsty bugs. Perhaps you have noticed that this time of year in the open, where daytime dragonflies patrol their acres, few blood-sucking mites will pester you. Step into the woods, where foliage hides mosquitoes from this predator, and you'll soon flee.
Or note those few moments, between sunset and dark, after the dragonfly goes to ground and before the bats come out, how many mosquitoes swarm after warm flesh. We appreciate dragonflies, the mosquito's bane, and would, if we could, fit them with night-vision goggles to help them maintain their patrols while we linger on our deck after dark.
