Last evening before supper we took one of the golf carts at K&T's for a customary inspection of property under an evening sun. As we came out past the Miss Kim, we heard a sharp and clear cry, distinct in its demands of inattentive parents. Closer inspection revealed a young robin separated from its nest mates and perhaps reconsidering its new-found freedom, a circumstance that required a self-sufficiency yet undiscovered. No doubt, the parents were within earshot of that demanding cry and would soon respond.

This morning after breakfast, we stopped here and there just to watch the far shore of this pond and that, only to be startled by a nearby rustling in tomorrow's cattails, followed by a male red-wing blackbird in full display and a bug in its beak shooing us away from a fledged nestling sheltering among the reeds. About the pond we could detect similar progress wherever the reeds were thick.
