Coastal Redwoods

While in northern California, north of Fort Bragg in coastal redwoods, we drove through a grove of ancient redwoods in Leggett, where this 315-foot, 21-foot diameter, and 2,400-year-old redwood had been tunneled to allow a modest sedan to drive right through the tree trunk.
Called the Chandelier Tree because its many vertical branches give it a chandelier look, this ancient tree thrives in the cool, moist coastal climate despite a steady stream of car-borne spectators driving through its base.
