As autumn approaches, cool mornings reveal warm, moist tendrils rising off the warmer surface of nearby Mill Pond, where we often walk before the sun becomes too high and hot. At first, as we head west along the shore road, the mists are thick and sounds muffled. A tree on the far shore dimly glows through the mist, its leaves already beginning the change to early autumn shades of gold.
On our return east, the still-strong sun has begun to warm the air, which absorbs the thinning mists and restores the normal sights and sounds of life about the pond.
