Overnight the temperature fell to 45F, and an east wind limited today's high to about 65F despite more sunshine than not. The wind helped to fend off the mosquitoes, which this wet and cool summer have been a thirsty horde. The long way to the Post Office this morning found one heron in a local stream, and the first of the strong Berkshire fall colors both in roadside and nursery trees.
Early color here gets two comments. In a wet year, the color has been precipitated by the cool and wet. In a dry year,... Wet, dry, normal, almost always the color comes in early September, independent of frost and opinion. We enjoy it, as it signals the turning of our New England seasons, which are four distinct seasons in these parts.
