Yet another mild November afternoon with some sun and light east breezes found us at the Mill Pond dam, where preparations for winter proceeded with the energy found only in an American Red Squirrel determined to own and cash every pine cone and its seed within a hundred feet of his pine tree nest cavity. As we approached, it scampered up a vine onto this pine tree branch, from where it chattered and whistled and twitched about as it attempted to urge us along and away from its territory.
