Yesterday's lament, that summer has been cool and very wet with scads of mosquitoes, was but a fit of pique. Today we enjoy the best of Berkshire weather, with westerly breezes, bright sunshine, relatively dry air, and temperatures in the high 70s. A day to lift spirits, dry out sticking doors, and take a walk amid summer's ripening bounty.
Blackberry season has started, along with blueberries and peaches. In a few weeks apples will be ready for snacks and pies, our favorite apple the Macintosh. About the cottage, the sun reveals seasonal flowers and berries, such as our hibiscus, a wild bush berry (not a blueberry; can anyone tell us the name?), and bees busily counting how many little flowers make up a sunflower head.
