For some years we have attended a family gathering in northern California, where as many cousins as can make it assemble for a week of somores, beach bonfires, eating, drinking, exploring, and getting reacquainted, especially the young cousins, this year ranging from 14 to 6 among 8 youngsters. This year we were 17 people under one expansive roof.
The beach, complete with a massive rock whale, varies with the tide, time of day, and weather. Two times a day we walked down the 83 steps from the cliff house to the beach, always accompanied by happy cousins. From tide pools to 10-mile River, the beach never failed to entertain.
