Mouring Dove

Thanksgiving has passed without significant snows. Temperatures drop below freezing each night and then rise above during the day. After very cold weather a week ago, ground frost reaches down a foot in exposed places, and most ponds have frozen over. Birds more frequently stop by the feeder, taking turns and resting between feedings in a nearby pin oak, as this red-booted dove likes to do.
