Ice Fishing

A warm February sun, southerly breezes, and thick lake ice drew these fishermen out onto the ice with their grill, coolers, tip-ups, and families. For the first time in more than a month, above-freezing temperatures hint at spring, which technically arrives in mid-March, but officially after last frost in May in these parts.

Nearby to these fishermen, local homeowners have taken advantage of the thick ice to fell several large trees threatening their lakeside homes. A large tractor/backhoe dragged the felled trees onto the ice, where they cut up the trees and burned them right on the ice and safely away from the houses. Everything in its season, makes for easy work and play.
