Nesting Time

Close scrutiny reveals a female Canada goose sitting on her nest and looking to the right, surrounded by down and up on an abandoned beaver lodge. She contentedly was plucking her own down and placing it under her. When she must leave her eggs to eat, she will ensure that her treasures are completely covered with her down.
Nearby, her mate dabbles as he guards her during this vulnerable time. After about a month, the young, using an egg tooth on their bill, break out of the egg over two days. During nesting the male will defend her with strong wing beats and calls as he chases various predators ranging from skunk to coyote.
