Over the past several days our local ramblings find much to corroborate the imminence of summer, such as flowering staghorn sumac and a busy bee, weighted down with much pollen packed onto its hind thighs.
Nearby, exotic milkweed blossoms attract a variety of ants and other insects, and soon arriving monarch butterflies will begin laying their eggs on the underside of the plant's leaves.
At the edge of field we anticipate the ripening of these black caps, and make a mental note where we spotted them.
Along gravel roads, flea bane abounds, wherever sunshine dominates.
And suddenly, day lilies by the thousands along country and town lanes, as well as formal gardens.
