We have been having a lovely spring, with most bulbs blossoming, grass greening, leaf buds swelling, and peepers peeping. Our bluebirds have started a nest in one of our four boxes, while tree swallows are competing for the others. A pair of house finch have set up housekeeping in our arborvitae, and this morning we see that our great blue heron has returned to its favorite haunts.
Today is especially warm and nice, with a southerly breeze and clear sky promising temperatures in the 70s. This spate of warmth has brought out painted turtles to bask on logs and old stumps, and garter snakes have emerged from their dens to hunt bugs and peepers.
