As noted earlier (11 Dec. 07 -The Matterhorn), our parents took the family to Great Britain and Europe in the summer of 1957, when we were treated to the Gornergrat cog train ride up out of Zermatt, at the time a rustic Swiss alpine town in the valley near the Matterhorn.One of our hobbies is to retake a photo of one taken long ago. In this instance, the first photo was taken by our sister from a small bridge in Zermatt in 1957. The second photo was taken from approximately the same spot by a travel agency a year or so ago. The Matterhorn, the landscape, the church, and a few of the buildings are in the earlier photo, but much has changed over a half century as the town has accommodated greatly increased tourism and world-class skiing.
The third photo we copied earlier this month from a live webcam at the Gornergrat station and observatory. It shows the cog train arriving as skiers enjoy one of the best skiing seasons in decades.
