Travel brings interesting things to us. This snail in a Danville, California, garden must be named Dan. He spends his time hiding from the scrub jays and foraging for bits of plants and algae among a garden's debris.
Along the west coast's northern cliffs and often shrouded in mists one finds grand flowers in surreal surroundings, such as this one high above Whale Rock, north of Ft. Bragg, California.
At the California-Oregon border, in Crescent City, a commercial fishing town, these sea lions bark and roar and threaten each other as they vie for space on fishermen's docks. Their vast bulks block access to the boats and so weigh down the docks as to almost sink them. A good binocular finds lesser seals on nearby rocks, no match for these hulks.
A sunset shining through northern California's virtually perpetual offshore fog bank provides subtle lighting and colors not found here at home.
